DIAMOND BIRTHSTONE GUIDE

Adorn yourself in the captivating and mystical energy of April’s birthstone.

A brunette model tenderly holds her shoulder, with her engagement ring finger adorned with a beautiful brilliant-cut, solitaire white diamond engagement ring.
A hand is pictured placing an exquisite serpent-shaped engagement ring on the ring finger, set with brilliant white diamonds in the body of the serpent and its eyes.

The History of Diamonds

In ancient civilisations, diamonds were said to have magical properties, with the Greeks even believing that they were divine tears or celestial fragments, fallen from the stars in the heavens above. Most often used as talismans to protect the wearer from harm, diamonds were also seen as a symbol of wealth and status, reserved for powerful figures like royalty.

Where are Diamonds From?

Diamonds are formed deep within the Earth, under immense heat and pressure. It's estimated that diamonds were first formed over a billion years ago, and they have been prized for their incandescent beauty and rarity ever since.

Today, we have the technology to create diamonds in a laboratory setting, replicating the same natural conditions that occur deep within the Earth. These lab-grown diamonds have the same physical and chemical properties as natural diamonds, albeit with fewer inclusions, and are an ethical and sustainable alternative to traditional mined diamonds. Whether natural or lab-grown, diamonds continue to capture our imagination and inspire us with their enduring allure.

An out-of-focus model holds up a beautiful engagement ring. The ring features an east-west set lab-grown white diamond, flanked by two serpents rising out of the solid yellow gold band. A modern ancient piece for those seeking a non-traditional and unique engagement ring.
A beautiful brunette model is pictured in a close-up wearing an ancient inspired engagement ring on her ring finger, against bare skin. The ring is an ancient Egyptian and Roman inspired signet-style ring, with an oval shaped cluster of la-grown oval, marquise, princess and round cut diamonds. She also wears a huggie earring, set with a dangling and dainty princess-cut white diamond.

The Properties of Diamonds

It was believed that diamonds could protect their wearers from evil, enhance their physical and mental abilities, and even cure illnesses with their purifying capabilities. Many cultures believed that diamonds possessed spiritual and healing powers, and were often used in religious ceremonies and rituals.

In addition to their perceived mystical qualities, diamonds are also valued for their physical properties. They are the hardest natural substance on earth, making them nearly indestructible… The word 'diamond' is actually derived from the Greek word ‘adamas’, meaning unconquerable.

Still to this day, the diamond is truly a gem of wonder and magic that continues to fascinate and captivate with its mysterious origins and unparalleled brilliance.
